Protect Your Smartphone From Malicious QR Codes
Quick Response or QR codes like the one in the picture above seem to be popping up everywhere these days. They are great for advertisers and marketers because they allow users to obtain product information and website addresses by scanning the multidimensional bar code with their smartphone's camera. Unfortunately hackers and criminals are also using QR codes to trick users into installing malware, or handing over personal information. Before you scan another QR Code with your smartphone, check out our featured article on how to protect yourself from malicious QR codes being spread by criminals and hackers: Have you been the victim of this new type of attack? Ford Plans Wi-Fi On Board Ford, one of the failing auto industry's big dogs, announced it will nerd-out and bring Wi-Fi to a line of its vehicles. Starting in 2010, SYNC-equipped Ford cars and trucks will use not only currently available communications technologies (such as hands-free calling, audible text messages, and real-time traffic), they will also be "rolling Wi-Fi hotspots." This is perfect for when your school-age offspring needs to hop on the Internet for last-minute research, or -- more likely -- for businesspeople hacking out e-mails without paying much attention to the road. Functioning much in the same way as hotspot cards from wireless providers, a small data card will be implanted in the vehicle allowing for connection without the hassle of cords. Is Certification Important for Developers? Certification, it seems to me, garners a lot more interest among the IT administrator audience than developers. Though there are plenty of certifications available for the programmer crowd, I don't sense the same level of passion that I do among admins. But I don't know if this is a faulty perception on my part, or the reality. What do you say? If you're a developer and not interested in certification, why not? Or if you do get certified, what do you find it does for you? I'd like to get a good conversation going about this. Respond below, or feel free to send me an email, so we can talk directly about this. Did you enable the new Facebook Timeline feature yet? The new Timeline lets you, your friends and, depending on your privacy settings, complete strangers flip through your Facebook history like a digital scrapbook. It has a newspaper-like appearance and all is easily navigated. Simply click on the year you are interested in and it jumps to all your old posts for that time frame. What can you do to lock down your new Timeline? Check out this week's featured article on How to Secure Your Facebook Timeline for some tips on how to keep stalkers and other bad guys from perusing your old posts (and your new ones as well). Google has come under fire since the launch of the Nexus One after hundreds of messages were posted with complaints or questions about the phone. Many customers said that after calling T-Mobile they were referred to HTC, the phone's maker, or the reverse. Google does not have a customer-service phone line, and customers sending e-mails were being told to wait one or two days for a reply.
