Is Your Voicemail Vulnerable to Hackers?
We've all heard about the British News International scandal involving reporters allegedly hacking into voicemail accounts to illegally obtain information. The big question how did they do it? We'll attempt to answer that question in this week's featured article: Voicemail Hacking Explained. We'll also look at some things you can do to improve the security of your own voicemail box to keep hackers out of your business. Has your voicemail ever been hacked? Let us know your experiences in the comments section below: Is Your Voicemail Vulnerable to Hackers? originally appeared on About.com Internet / Network Security on Thursday, December 15th, 2011 at 05:33:24. Even if video games aren't your focus, getting a first or even secondary degree in the technical field might make you more competitive in this tough economy. There are even several certifications that don't require the commitment of a full degree that can make you more marketable. Starting in 2010, SYNC-equipped Ford cars and trucks will use not only currently available communications technologies (such as hands-free calling, audible text messages, and real-time traffic), they will also be "rolling Wi-Fi hotspots." This is perfect for when your school-age offspring needs to hop on the Internet for last-minute research, or -- more likely -- for businesspeople hacking out e-mails without paying much attention to the road. Functioning much in the same way as hotspot cards from wireless providers, a small data card will be implanted in the vehicle allowing for connection without the hassle of cords. The Dangers of Facebook Oversharing
When does sharing on Facebook become oversharing, and when does oversharing become a personal safety risk? We attempt to answer both of these questions in this week's featured article: The Dangers of Facebook Oversharing. We're not talking about type of oversharing where you describe every detail of your day down to how the oat bran you ate that morning is helping your regularity. The oversharing we're discussing is the sharing of information that a stalker, thief, lawyer, or possibly an employer might use against you. Do you share sensitive information, such as your location, on Facebook? Do you think oversharing is a personal safety risk? Let us know in the comments section below: The Dangers of Facebook Oversharing originally appeared on About.com Internet / Network Security on Monday, January 30th, 2012 at 20:05:04. Called CertView, it requires a username and password. Once logged on, a host of information is available, including certification history, certification logos, and a very cool tool that allows you to verify your certification to a third party. This last function is pretty exciting, I think. It gives a potential or current employer, or client, the ability to check out your certifications for themselves. They will get a login that will allow them to examine the section of CertView that contains your certifications. Very easy, very slick. Note that at your first logon, you'll need to provide demographic information from Pearson VUE, Oracle's new testing partner. I only bring this up because Oracle had a big "Warning" sign about it in its CertView overview video. Have that information on hand before you register for CertView, and enter it carefully, as you'll be locked out for awhile if you don't punch it in correctly. I really like CertView, and the forward thinking it represents from Oracle. It's a terrific tool for credential holders. The images were taken at approximately 10:27 a.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, and could prove to be a helpful tool for aid organizations attempting to survey and assess the damage to Haiti's infrastructure. (Click on any of the images in the story to see a larger version; all show satellite images of areas in Haiti before and after the earthquake hit.)
